Responding to months of bitter criticism from campus computing administrators, the Microsoft Corporation has announced a new pricing plan for colleges and universities. But institutions must buy a broad package of the company's products to participate.

Some college officials say that while the new plan isn't exactly a bargain, it is an improvement over the company's recent offers.
