Michener Endows Writing Scholarship

James A. Michener has donated another $500,000 to the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop to establish the Paul Engle Fellowship program.

Frank Conroy, director of the workshop, said Mr. Michener had named his latest gift to honor the man who directed the workshop from 1941 to 1966 and who is credited with bringing the program to national prominence. Mr. Michener, the author of more than 35 books, gave $500,000 to the workshop 10 years ago to establish the James Michener Fellowship
