Mexican Court Rules in Massacre Case

Mexico's Supreme Court has cleared the way for a special prosecutor to file genocide charges against a former president, Luis Echeverría, and another former top official in the 1971 massacre of student protesters.

In a 3-to-2 vote, a Supreme Court panel ruled that the 30-year statute of limitations protecting Mr. Echeverría and his former interior minister, Mario Moya, began only in 1976, when both men left office.

A lower court will now decide whether to issue
