Metaphysics of Pain; Marriages of True Minds; the Humanity of Mental Illness; Reflections of Gaia's Father
Pain is to suffering what sex is to romance. Products of nerve cells and hormones, pain and sex are simply the physical substrates for deeper metaphysical phenomena. Suffering, like love, requires a human dimension in addition to the raw biology -- a dimension of intellect, imagination, emotions, cultural influences, and spiritual beliefs. Because of its human dimension, the perception of pain varies according to each person's culture, religion, and personal makeup.
