Mergers Will Unite 2 Catholic Colleges in New York and 2 in Illinois
Two sets of Roman Catholic institutions announced in December that they would merge. And in both instances, a financially struggling small college -- in one case, an institution for women -- will become part of a larger, thriving university.
Marymount College, in Tarrytown, N.Y., will merge with Fordham University over the next 18 months, and Barat College, in Lake Forest, Ill., will become part of nearby DePaul University.
