A professional medical group and a health journal are locked in a battle over an article that accuses the medical group of catering to the needs of industry.
The article, published in the most recent issue of the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health, concludes that the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine sides with “industry positions on virtually all issues” and that its publication, the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, is “decidedly pro-industry in its editorial policy and publications.”
The professional group has threatened to sue the journal and demanded that it retract the article. The group has also posted to its Web site a document denying the article’s assertions. —Andrea L. Foster
