Wayne State University’s School of Medicine has laid off 26 doctors and other staff members after a dispute with the Detroit Medical Center, the school’s teaching hospital, led the center to withhold $12-million in annual payments to Wayne State for care of Medicaid patients, The Detroit News reported this morning. University officials said further rounds of layoffs were probable, as the dispute — the latest in what the News described as a strained relationship — was likely to drag on. —Andrew Mytelka
