Medical Campus Recovering From Hurricane Is Hit by Layoffs
The University of Texas system's Board of Regents ordered the layoffs on Wednesday of nearly 4,000 employees at its Galveston Island medical branch, saying the institution had been losing $40-million a month since Hurricane Ike devastated the campus, as well as the island that its teaching hospital serves (The Chronicle, September 26).
