McGill U. Rejects Ayn Rand Chair
McGill University, in Montreal, has turned down a million-dollar proposal for an endowed chair devoted to the study of Ayn Rand's philosophy because officials thought the focus of the chair would be too narrow.
"Our response has nothing to do with Ayn Rand's philosophy," Ber-nard Shapiro, McGill's president, said. "Our endowed chairs are 'in perpetuity,' so the subject must be sufficiently broad to sustain long-term scholarship."
