Math Problem at a Chicago College Leads to Stabbing

A GED student in a class at Malcolm X College, part of the City Colleges of Chicago, grew so frustrated at not understanding a mathematics concept on Tuesday that she stabbed her instructor with a steak knife, according to a police report cited by the Chicago Sun-Times. The instructor received only a minor injury, and was treated and released from a local hospital. The student repeatedly said, “I don’t understand. ... Explain to me” before she assaulted the teacher, the police said. The student, who has a record that features 27 misdemeanors, now faces new charges.
