'Match Day' Assigns Medical Students
Months of wondering and waiting ended in mid-March for thousands of fourth-year medical students, who learned where they will spend the next several years training to become physicians. More than 14,700 U.S. medical-school seniors applied for residencies this year through the National Resident Matching Program, which uses a computer algorithm to match students with residencies at teaching hospitals around the country. It was the highest number in nearly 20 years.
