Mascot Controversy at U. of Illinois

To the Editor:

The article "Chief Illiniwek Spurs Protests Again" (Short Subjects, July 23) hardly does service to the readership of The Chronicle, as it fails to convey the substance of what actually transpired on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Furthermore, the statement that "700 people have signed a petition asking that the chief be retired" was changed from the fact that more than 700 faculty members had signed that
