Martin Luther King and the Civil-Rights Movement

To the Editor: Denton L. Watson's essay on the contributions of civil-rights leaders other than Martin Luther King, Jr., is very timely and a good reminder of the hard work and sacrifice of many other activists in the African-American community. The omission of James Farmer, and the Congress of Racial Equality, however, is somewhat curious. Was this exclusion intended for political reasons (Mr. Watson was an official of the NAACP), or a mere oversight?
