When Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice came together in Paul Mazursky's 1969 debut effort as a Hollywood director, the no-nonsense auteur started his couples off in a therapy session, then quickly immersed them in sex and psychobabble, the better to entertain and edify us through farce.
