Many Trustees Lack Fund-Raising Expertise

A new report sheds light on a growing concern for many small colleges: trustees falling down on the job.

With tight budgets and slim endowments, many small and midsize institutions rely heavily on their boards of directors to donate money and assist in fund raising.

But according to a report released last week by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, college presidents are increasingly dissatisfied with their board members' fund-raising abilities.
