Many Monographs Are Worthwhile
To the Editor:
I share Lindsay Waters's concern that university presses may be publishing too many monographs, but I do not share his problem ("Rescue Tenure From the Tyranny of the Monograph," The Review, April 20). In fact, I have found that there are simply too many excellent monographs in my fields (early American and legal history) for me to give each the attention it deserves. Appropriate forms of publication of research in every discipline are different. I agree with Waters
