Making Sure Students Write Their Own Admissions Essays
To the Editor:
Colleges should have specific policies on, and clearly stated rules about, how the admissions essay should be completed ("Duke Asks Applicants if They Got Help on Essays, and Most Say They Did," March 1). If the essay should be done entirely individually, then ... using an independent testing center would be appropriate. However, if a college allows the student to have outside help with the essay, it should also require the student, perhaps through the high-school
