MIT to Require All Freshmen to Live on the Campus

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology will require all freshmen to live in campus dormitories beginning in 2001, ending a long tradition of allowing them to live in fraternity and sorority houses.

The change comes amid charges that the current, more permissive housing policy contributed to the alcohol-poisoning death last year of Scott Krueger, a freshman who had lived in the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house.
