MIT Media Lab's Irish Offshoot, Nearly Broke, Will Be Closed

Media Lab Europe, the high-profile Irish offshoot of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Laboratory, will soon close, MIT officials have announced, because it is running out of money after just four years of operation.

The Irish government has invested more than $10-million in the lab, which it had hoped would be the centerpiece of an effort to jump-start research on information technology and encourage the development of high-tech businesses.
