MIT Eliminates Tuition for Students Whose Families Earn Less Than $75,000

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s board of trustees agreed Friday to waive tuition for students whose family income is less than $75,000 a year, The Boston Globe reports.

In addition, the university will stop considering home equity in its calculation of assets for families with incomes below $100,000.

MIT, which ranks No. 6 in endowment size, joins its competitors Harvard and Yale in bolstering aid to middle-class students in recent months. —Don Troop
