MIT Chooses Woman as President

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has chosen Yale University's provost, Susan Hockfield, as its president, the first woman to hold the job.

Ms. Hockfield, 53, was chosen last month and will take office in December. She is a neuroscientist, and her academic background in the life sciences is a departure for MIT, whose presidents have reflected the institution's historical strength in engineering.
