MIT Backs Away From Media Lab Program in India, Citing Differences With Government

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has abandoned a management role in its Media Lab offshoot in India because of differences with government officials there over how the program should be run.

MIT established Media Lab Asia in 2001. The hope was that it would help solve persistent problems in India, such as a lack of technology in rural areas and a need for computers that can be used by those who are illiterate.
