Lynn U. Students Attend the Final Four -- for Credit

A dozen sports-management majors from Lynn University, in Florida, are traveling to Atlanta as part of a credit-earning course called “The Final Four Experience,” the Associated Press reported. As Dave Barry, the humorist and chronicler of life in South Florida, would say, “I am not making this up.”

The trip to Atlanta is costing the studious undergraduates $3,250 each. But look at what they get for their money: a hotel room for six nights, food, roundtrip airline tickets, two rental vans, tickets to a college baseball game and a professional ice-hockey game (just for study, natch), and of course the three Final Four games.

All play and no work doesn’t suit the Lynn curriculum. So the students will have to undertake demanding studies for the three credit hours they will earn. They will take tests, keep diaries, and make presentations after they return to the campus.

One of their professors, along for the ride, told the AP, “We knew they needed to see something and experience it, rather than sit during a lecture and listen to us.” —Andrew Mytelka
