Jamie P. Merisotis, president of the Institute for Higher Education Policy, has been named the new president of the Indianapolis-based Lumina Foundation for Education.
Mr. Merisotis has focused much of his work on student-aid policy and how to improve access to college among financially needy and minority students, who have historically been underrepresented in higher education.
He established the Institute for Higher Education Policy, a nonprofit group based in Washington, in 1993. In one of its recent reports, the group urged federal policy makers to more fully examine the risks that needy students face when they take out private loans.
At Lumina, Mr. Merisotis will replace Martha D. Lamkin, who had announced that she planned to retire at the end of the year. —Sara Hebel
