Contrary to the suggestion in Sidelines in the April 5 issue, the cutback in low-profile sports teams at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst was not an effort "to comply with federal gender-equity guidelines." The university has always fully met federal guidelines by increasing its investment in women's sports while maintaining support for all its men's teams. ...
