Longtime President of U. of Phoenix to Step Down

The president of the University of Phoenix, the nation’s largest private university, will retire, effective July 1. Laura Palmer Noone, who has been with the university for 19 years and has been its president since 2000, is stepping down to spend more time with her family, according to a news release issued by the institution’s parent company, the Apollo Group. Unlike Todd S. Nelson, who abruptly resigned as chairman and chief executive of the Apollo Group in mid-January (The Chronicle, January 12), Ms. Noone will retain an association with the company, as president emerita.
