Long Wait for a B.A.
People always laugh when Clifford Straehley tells them he is a doctor who never graduated from college.
But the 83-year-old surgeon is finally receiving his bachelor of arts, from Saint Mary's College of California, 64 years after he left his undergraduate studies to help fill the need for doctors during World War II. The U.S. Army sent him to Harvard Medical School, and he went on to be chief surgeon at a base in Germany.
