Long-Awaited Survey Ranks 3,634 Doctoral Programs Nationwide
The National Research Council's vast study assesses the quality of research programs in 41 fields
Washington, D.C. -- A sweeping assessment of the nation's doctoral programs was released last week by the National Research Council, ranking the best, the worst, and the merely adequate offerings in 41 fields.
The long-awaited study, four years in the making, updates and expands an assessment of graduate education last issued by the N.R.C. in 1982. The new version examines the quality and effectiveness of 3,634 doctoral programs at 274 universities.
