John V. Lombardi, the controversial chancellor of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, has been recommended to become the next president of the Louisiana State University system, according to The Times-Picayune, a newspaper in New Orleans.
Mr. Lombardi was the only candidate recommended by the search committee after a lengthy search to replace William L. Jenkins. LSU’s Board of Supervisors is expected to vote next week on the committee’s recommendation.
Mr. Lombardi, who is also a former president of the University of Florida, is a strong fund raiser and an equally strong personality. He announced in May that he would resign as president of the flagship UMass campus after a leadership shuffle. —Karin Fischer
