Loan-Default Rate Creeps Up
The rate at which borrowers default on their federal student loans has increased slightly, to 5.1 percent, U.S. Department of Education officials announced last week.
The most recent figure, for borrowers who left college during the 2004 fiscal year, continues a trend in which default rates have remained below 6 percent since 1999.
