Loan Burdens Will Ease at 3 Elite Colleges
Three liberal-arts colleges in New England have announced plans to reduce the debt burdens on their students. Williams College will replace loans with grants, Colby College will do the same for residents of Maine, and Wesleyan University will eliminate loans for low-income students.
All of the policies will take effect next fall. At Wesleyan, most students whose annual family income is $40,000 or less will graduate debt-free. For all other financial-aid recipients, individual loan
