Although I certainly agree with Carlin Romano that Americans in general know little or nothing about literature from sub-Saharan Africa, I wonder what qualifies him to be the judge of the "authenticity" of various African texts ("Ignoring Authentic African Literature Means Ignoring Africans," The Chronicle Review, December 16).
