Lender Agrees to End Contracts That Allowed It to Use Sports Logos

Andrew M. Cuomo, New York State's attorney general, announced a settlement last week with a lender accused of deceiving thousands of students and providing kickbacks to some of the country's biggest athletics departments.

Under the settlement, the company, Student Financial Services, agreed to sever its lending arrangements with 63 colleges, including Florida State University, Georgetown University, and the Universities of Kansas, Oregon, and Washington. Those agreements included the
