Legislators Propose Fire-Safety Bills
A bipartisan group of lawmakers from both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives announced plans in May to propose four new federal laws to improve fire safety for college students. In the past two months six students have died because of fires in on-campus and off-campus housing, and 75 others have perished in fire-related tragedies since 2000.
Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, a Democrat from Ohio, led the effort to bring together both political parties and chambers of Congress
