Layoffs Hit 2 Small Colleges
Two small liberal-arts colleges have announced layoffs in the face of increasing financial problems.
William Jewell College, stung by declining enrollment over the last several years, announced in December that it would cut about 35 of its 300 faculty and staff positions.
Regis College laid off 50 employees earlier this month -- including four faculty members -- as part of a restructuring plan that the suburban-Boston institution hopes will eliminate its $6.5-million deficit
