The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Chaminade University on Tuesday, alleging that the Roman Catholic institution in Hawaii discriminated against a job candidate by withdrawing a job offer after she said she was pregnant, the Honolulu Star Bulletin reported today. The would-be employee interviewed for and was offered a job as an off-campus program coordinator, according to the lawsuit. One day after notifying campus officials that she planned to take a maternity leave, the job offer was withdrawn. If true, that would be a violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The university says it did not discriminate against her because of her pregnancy.
