Lawrence Livermore Contract Is Awarded
The U.S. Department of Energy awarded a contract last week to a management team that includes the University of California to operate Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, one of the country's principal research facilities for maintaining America's nuclear arsenal. Only one other team, which did not include a university, made a serious bid for the contract.
The announcement means that the university has again defied Congressional critics, who have pummeled it over continuing security
