Lawmakers Move to Block Plan to Expand U.S. Oversight of Research on Animals
Key members of Congress have moved to block a settlement between the Agriculture Department and animal-rights advocates that would expand federal oversight of research involving birds and rodents. Republican lawmakers approved a measure to stop the expansion of the Animal Welfare Act, which university officials fear would make biomedical research far more expensive.
