Last Man Standing in U. of Wyoming's Presidential Search

A late entrant in the University of Wyoming’s search for a new president was its interim president, Thomas Buchanan, and he has now been given a one-year contract as president, the university announced today.

Mr. Buchanan has been interim president since July 2005, when Philip L. Dubois left to become chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mr. Buchanan was initially shut out of the search for a successor, but faculty members successfully petitioned for him to be added to the list of finalists. When the Board of Trustees agreed to put Mr. Buchanan on the shortlist, the other two finalists bowed out (The Chronicle, March 28). Mr. Buchanan’s term expires on June 30, 2007.
