Ky. Attorney General Challenges Boards' Makeup

Kentucky's attorney general, Gregory D. Stumbo, has warned Ernie Fletcher, the state's governor, that his recent appointments to the governing boards of the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville violate state law.

In a letter sent late last month, Mr. Stumbo, a Democrat, gave Mr. Fletcher, a Republican, 10 days to seek the resignations of five recent Republican appointees to the two boards or face legal action. Mr. Stumbo says that, under a Kentucky law holding that
