Key Senator Assails Price Controls on Tuition but Criticizes Colleges Over Claims to Diversity
When it comes to price controls, colleges have the backing of a key senator.
Speaking at the annual meeting of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities last week, Sen. Lamar Alexander, a Tennessee Republican and former U.S. secretary of education, called government controls on tuition a "bad idea."
"What has made our system of higher education superior is autonomy and choice," he said.
At the same time, though, Senator Alexander chastised colleges
