Key Lawmaker Wants Bigger Budget Increase for NIH
Talk about moving mountains.
Rep. John Edward Porter, chairman of the House of Representatives panel that drafts the budget for the National Institutes of Health, said last week that he would push for a "much larger" fiscal-2000 budget increase for the agency. This, despite President Clinton's modest proposal -- 2 per cent more -- and budget caps imposed by Congress.
