Kentucky Lawyers Seek State's Help With Loans

Late-night comics are going to love this: In Kentucky, some lawyers say taxpayers ought to help them pay their college debts.

What triggered their interest in getting such assistance was the General Assembly's recent passage of a measure to pay off the student loans of engineers and other college graduates who remain in the state and work in energy-related jobs.

In arguing that lawyers who take public-service jobs are equally worthy of a loan-forgiveness program, some advocates
