Keeping Sophomores in College
To the Editor:
Finally colleges are taking the sophomore year seriously ("After the Freshman Bubble Pops," The Chronicle, September 8). I have advocated for years that orientation programs and service should continue for a student's whole academic career.
In a book I recently edited, College Student Retention: Formula for Student Success (Praeger, 2005), a chapter demonstrated the need for further research and action beyond the first year. Colleges have taken a good first step
