'K Street': A Political Hall of Mirrors
One of the minor joys of teaching is that I can trot out the same jokes again and again. Five years ago, knowing that the movie Animal House is as canonical a work for this generation of 18-year-olds as Silas Marner was for mine, I began a morning-after-the-1998-election American government class by writing on the board: Senator John Blutarsky. I paused, looked at the students, turned back to the board, and wrote: Governor Jesse Ventura. It brought down the house.
