Justice Rehnquist Helped Keep Courts Out of Colleges' Affairs
The death of Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist has left the U.S. Supreme Court without a key voice of judicial restraint when it comes to matters involving colleges. Combined with Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's planned retirement, it affords President Bush an opportunity to fill two vacant seats on the nine-member court and potentially alter its composition in ways that could reshape the legal landscape for higher education.
