Jury Orders Fresno State to Pay Ex-Coach $5.85-Million in Discrimination Case
A jury has ordered California State University at Fresno to pay $5.85-million to a former women's volleyball coach who sued it for sex discrimination. The award, which the university said it would appeal, is believed to be one of the largest ever for a coach suing for bias.
Lindy Vivas coached Fresno State's volleyball team from 1990 until 2004, when the university opted not to renew her contract. Campus officials have said the decision was based on her team's noncompetitive schedule,
