A New York judge has ordered Long Island University’s C.W. Post campus not to further punish five students, who were stripped of their jobs as resident assistants this month after they filmed a video that depicted them as hostage-takers from the Middle East. According to Newsday, the state judge is hearing a $2.5-million lawsuit in which the students accuse the university of wrongfully firing them as R.A.‘s and of discrimination. The students have apologized for the video and said they did not intend to offend. The short video shows them wearing ski masks as they detain a rubber duck that serves as a dormitory mascot. The students demand a ransom in broken English, use words like “jihad,” and listen as Middle Eastern music plays. The judge has scheduled a hearing in the case for Wednesday.
