A magistrate judge of the U.S. District Court in Atlanta has recommended that the University of Georgia clear John Soloski, a former dean of the university’s journalism school, of charges that he sexually harassed a female co-worker by making comments about her appearance, The Red and Black, a student newspaper, reported today.
Mr. Soloski, who remained on the faculty in the journalism school after resigning as dean, sued the university in 2006 for failing to give him a formal hearing when the complaint was filed.
Court documents obtained by The Red and Black state that the university’s investigation into the charges was “arbitrary, capricious, and unreasonable.”
The university has 10 days to challenge the magistrate judge’s recommendations, which could become court orders if left uncontested, the newspaper reported. A district judge will review the recommendations and any arguments filed by lawyers for the university and Mr. Soloski before issuing a ruling. —Caitlin Moran
