Journal Wants Its Listing Renewed in Social Sciences Citation Index; Writers' Association Relocates to Antioch U. Los Angeles
CITE UNSEEN: The editors of the Duke University Press journal History of Political Economy got some unpleasant news in April: A European economist pointed out to them that the journal had been removed from the Social Sciences Citation Index.
The editors groaned, as might be expected. Citation indexes -- a business in which the SSCI's publisher, Thomson ISI, is now overwhelmingly dominant -- play a key role in grant approvals and employment decisions, particularly in Europe.
